:It sounds like Neon Tetra disease honestly. I'm dealing with the same problem.
:I had at least 30 neon tetras in my tank and along with a new black angelfish i bought 3 more neons out of a new batch we had just gotten to the store. 1 day later i had 10 neons left. they start getting a jerky movment and kinda spiral around and gulp and then stop jerking and then do it again. I've read that farmalin can help, but in neons its fatal always. make a hospital tank and put all of your affected fish in there. VERY IMPORTANT: scoop ALL dead fish so the other fish don't munch on them and get it (Thats mostly how its transfered) and Vaccuum vaccuum vaccuum (the bottom of the tank that is) Do a complete overhaul if you have to, so to get rid of the cysts. The disease is passed through eating infected food (live food especially) and
:otherfish eating infected fish (or waste). change filter.
:If you need anymore help-E-mail me.

First off, barbs are not the way to go with a community tank. They will pick on everyone and just make everyone else miserable. Personally they are great in a tank with other barbs and agressive fish, but not the fish you have.
Second, tetras really need a low PH like 6.8. Anything higher they are just not going to be happy. I lost one a day until I figured this out. Now, all is well. Check your PH, check you ammonia. If all is well there, then you are back to square one figuring out what to treat with. I like triple sulfa or super sulfa for a good all around anti bacterial. But, if it is not bacterial, of course, it will not help. But, might be worth a try.
