I am sort of new to tropical fish and have been having a major problem with my community tank. I have a 70 gallon with about 50 fish in it(Black phantom, bleeding heart, Von Rio and Neon tetras. Clown loaches, powder blue and red honey gourmis, and red rosy barbs. Recently I introduced 6 chekered barbs and all heck broke loose. 3 of them died right away and since then I have been loosing 3-4 fish per day. The ones that are croaking get a patchy look to them like they are loosing their color in patches of their body and they hang at the top occasionally darting in uncontolable spurts around the tank. Non of the stores seem to know what the problem could be. At the store I bought the checkered barbs from they lost about 2/3 of the tank of barbs with no appearent symtoms. They treated them with something with formaldihyde in it that they can no longer get because it was outlawed by the government. They gave me methyblu and I treated according to the box and still the fish are dying at about 2-4 per day. The tank has good filtration, the water is crystal clear and well oxygenated with air stones. Any ideas? Please help as I have about given up.
