Hi,
Neons and glo- lights are not the same. However they will school together. All tetra's tend to like lots of plants, and a PH of around 6.5. They also like low lighting if you can't provide low lighting then not to worry, It's just a comfort thing. As long as you keep the PH at 6.5 I don't see why they are dying. By the way, if you really want to extend the life of any tetra, buy Blackwater extract. It comes in a bottle. I find it hard to find. but if you ever do, it is well worth the purchase. It is much better then putting peat into the filter and it makes them feel right at home.

Happy Fish Keeping,
Matt
