:I was going about my routine weekly water changes for both of my 10 gallon tanks. As I was about to dump out the dirty water I noticed that there were little "things" crawling/swimming around in the water...I figured it was one of two things..either it was some sort of insect larva or my neon tetras had layed eggs and they had hatched before the 5 adult tetras or the 16 guppies had eaten them...I was shocked...needless to say I couldn't just kill the little things...Luckily a friend had just given me a fish nursery so they are all trapped in there now...This couldn't have happened at a worse time although I can't believe my luck...tetras with out trying who would have thought! anyway I don't have any of the special food that I've been reading that these little fishies need...can I just powder up the flake food?...If not will they survive over a week till I can get the food they need?...Also has anyone ever seen a photo of baby neons on the internet? if so where please?

Powdered flakes are too large to start tetra fry off on. If you can't get the appropriate fry food right away then you can feed them the yolk from hardboiled eggs. To do this take a small bit of the yolk from a hardboiled egg and crumble it between your fingers into a small jar of dechlorinated water or better yet into a clean or new test tube like you would use for testing your water parameters. Then shake it up good to break down the egg yolk for feeding. Depending upon how many fry you have would determine how much they need to be fed, the more fry the more drops of the egg yolk they will need. I wouldn't give them anymore than 2 or 3 drops per 50 fry, and they will need to be fed 4 or 5 times a day. As a result of the extra feedings their tank will need to be cleaned 3 or 4 times a week.
