::so i live in north carolina... and i don't have power, big surprise... my apartment is at 50 degrees (but that will drop tonight since it is going to be in the teens) my fish are all still alive, but the water is cold and i can't filter the water. when the power does come back up, what is the best way to warm those guys back up?

::also, it is possible that i might not have power till the 11th. what can i do, if anything, for these poor fish?!?

::thanks!

:If you haven't done so already, wrap the tank with towels or blankets to prevent anymore heat from escaping. You may also want to go out and get a battery operated air pump for $10 if you don't already have one to at least keep the surface movement going for gas exchange. To warm up the room, which in turn will warm up the tank, try getting a kerosene heater.

well... i hadn't wrapped up the tank in towels... which i had thought about doing, but never got around to it (dealing with trees falling on cars and threatening to fall on my apartment). as for the battery operated pump... the only stores that i know of that might sell those still do not have power, and as for a heater... those are just about like gold around here since 109,000 of 115,000 of the people in durham with Duke Power do not have power... it is a mess down here. the fish are fine now, even though they are cold. it is more of a problem of how to heat them back up. since this afternoon, they were all still alive, but when the power comes up (which might not be until wed.), how do i heat them back up slowly? i was going to let the heater warm the air, which will warm the tank. then let the light warm it a little more next. then turn on the heater for short periods of time to let them adjust. is this going to be slow enough? also... i had a pregnant sword... will she lose the babies from the cold water? this whole thing is a big mess!!! uuuggghhhh!!!!!

thanks for you help!
