If you can't find any fish, you could always take a piece of lettuce, stick it under a plate in the tank during the night, and then throw it away the next morning. It's supposed to attract the snails, so by the next day it will be covered with the little fellows. You may just have to resort to periodically picking them out that way. Best of luck to you.
