one snail count as one fish?

I just added 5 more mystery snails to my tank and was wondering if they count as a fish as far as the amount of fish per gallon? Also, with a total of seven snails should I add extra food such as algae wafers so they have enough to eat? There isn't much growing on the glass to keep them fed. How much does one quarter sized snail eat? Any ideas?
I am trying to breed them and still cant seem to get an accurate opinion on wether they actually have seperate sexes or just need another around to reproduce. Nobody is sure what genders I have either and I cant tell based on the information I have been given. Which explains why I now have 7 snails, to increase the chances of having 2 that are compatible. If anyone actually has a way to tell let me know.
