My snails are doing the same thing. The shells are just going away...

:Hi. I no longer have an aquarium but when I did I lost my two apple snails to some sort of disease or parasite. I was hoping that someone could tell me what it was.
:The shells slowly disintegrated until the snail's shells were no longer able to support them and they died.
:Does anyone know what may have caused this. The fish, even though they were danios, didn't seem to have any problem.
