SNAILS EVERYWHERE!!! HELP!!!

Apparently I bought some plant life for my fish that came with snails. Over the past month my tank has been literaly taken over by snails. I have (no joke) over a thousand snails in my tank. I have to get rid of them some how, but I don't have the heart to kill them. What can I do? Can I take them to the local river and drop them off in that water? Can I put them in a pond somewhere? Can they live outside of water? Can I put them in the yard somewhere? If killing them is all I can do, would you please suggest what type of fish is friendly to guppies, but agressive enough to eat the snails up quickly? I prefer the circle of life method of murder :) Right now, I have guppies, catfish, and alge eaters. None of those fish will eat the snails even when the shells are soft.

PLEASE Hurry with a solution, as with each day hundreds of snails are being born. I have a photo, please request via e-mail if you would like to see a photo.
