guiltless FW ray purchase?

Are there any breeders of FW rays?

My only experience with ordering from a LFS just left me fairly upset. It took 6 months for them to get a ray, when they did it was a histrix (which my newbie research had lead me to believe they're very sensitive, and we'd asked for a motoro or P. henlei). He was at the store for 2 days, when we got to him his tail looked like something had nibbled on it. In our dealings with other "basic boney" fish we thought it looked like tail & fin rot. "oh, no. sombody must've nibbled on him" (and there was a bit of "I ordered him special for you"). To make a long story short. 4 painful, medicated, QT tank days later, and I know what you mean by death curl. I must admit I'm rather surprised by my LFS, they're not usually that pushy, or ignorant.

We're looking to venture back, but I hate the thought of some wild caught, way stressed ray winding up at my LFS again.

Tank info:
pH - 6.5
Nitrate, Nitrites, Ammonia - 0
Age of tank setup - going on 3 years
Size - 100 gal
Inhabitants - 1 gar, 1 pleco
