Hello, I see where no one has answered your question, so I will, there are alot more aquarist with more experience on here than I, but I did just set up a 55 gal just a few months ago, and I know what it took to start it and to make water changes. In my opinion you will need 1 40 pound bag of instant ocean. It will be close. But 2 bags will be to much, but if you want enough to get you through the summer also, you might want to pick up 2 bags. a 40 pound bag should run you around 20.00 per bag. I have 1 store here that sells it for 23.00 and another thats sells the exact same bag for 18.99.
Have fun, Kerrie
:I've recently been handed the responsibility of starting and stocking a marine invertebrate tank for some school programs. I've got a brackish tank at home, so I know a thing or two about aquarium salts but I'm having a bit of trouble envisioning just how much salt I'm going to have to buy for the new tank.
:So, here's my question: I've got a 25 gallon tank that's going to need to be brought up to a specific gravity of around 1.02 from 0. Then I'm going to need enough salt to use for water changes until June when then school year's over (knowing how these things work, I'll probably still be taking care of these critters after June but my budget is designed to get me through June so we'll work from there). Could some kind soul with some salt water experience give me a general guesstament as to exactlly how many gallons of Instant Ocean (or similar product) I will be needing to get me through June? Noramally, I'd just buy a 50 gallon bucket and count on someone else using the excess if there was any. However, I'm on a pretty tight budget so this time I thought I'd ask around for advice.
