I've recently been handed the responsibility of starting and stocking a marine invertebrate tank for some school programs. I've got a brackish tank at home, so I know a thing or two about aquarium salts but I'm having a bit of trouble envisioning just how much salt I'm going to have to buy for the new tank.
So, here's my question: I've got a 25 gallon tank that's going to need to be brought up to a specific gravity of around 1.02 from 0. Then I'm going to need enough salt to use for water changes until June when then school year's over (knowing how these things work, I'll probably still be taking care of these critters after June but my budget is designed to get me through June so we'll work from there). Could some kind soul with some salt water experience give me a general guesstament as to exactlly how many gallons of Instant Ocean (or similar product) I will be needing to get me through June? Noramally, I'd just buy a 50 gallon bucket and count on someone else using the excess if there was any. However, I'm on a pretty tight budget so this time I thought I'd ask around for advice.
