My tank just finished cycleing today nothing but 60 lbs of live rock is in it, and about 20-25 lbs of fine aragonite.
right now, nitrate is at oppm, and there are no bio balls in the wetdry (there coming in the mail).
Of cource there is really no bio load, because there are no fish, only whats on the rock is producing ammonia.

Im going to utah to ski tomarrow, so im not planning on adding any fish till the end of next week.
That brings up another question however:
I'll be around the great salt lake, in salt lake city,
which i beleive is higher than average in salinity.
Do you think it would be safe to collect live sand from there, and possibly specimens?
the waters there are very cold now, however they get very warm in the summer. My tank is 75 degrees.

:That depends on a couple things, including the strength of the skimmer, the size and bioload of your tank, and the amount of live rock and live sand you have. Technically any wastes that are already in the form of ammonia or nitrite will be converted to nitrate by your wet dry system. The skimmer can remove a lot of wastes before they become ammonia and nitrite, but once they have been decomposed to ammonia there is nothing it can do. I would have your water tested for nitrates and if its more than 10 then I would consider removing the bioballs, assuming you do have a solid amount of live rock and you trust your skimmer. There are many people that believe that nitrates do not harm corals but in my opinion, it is better safe than sorry.
