::Hi, for years the only fish I've owned is Bettas. I love the red tail sharks, and have read all the concerns about them being territorial/aggressive etc. I may or may not try one out with my betta. My question is what kind of tank do red tails need, do they need bubbles, air filters, pumps, etc.? Or can they live without it? This may be a really silly question, but I've only had fish in bowls before. I remember a very personable and beautiful red tail shark from my childhood, but not the tank set-up it was kept in.

:I do not recommend you keeping one with your betta since the betta is too easy a target for a redtail's aggression. The following link will give you more info on their care.

I agree. Don't put these two together. I have a rainbow and a redtail shark in a 90 gallon tank. They can be kept together in a tank this big, but they are very aggressive toward each other, my bala sharks, and any other "colorful" fish. I had to move my swords to the molly tank. The sharks are "chasers", and the betta would be an easy target. They are one of my favories though, but keep in mind... they get BIG!
