Hi,

I'm certainly no expert, but my red tail shark is very vibrant in colour (deep black and bright red tail) in the afternoon/early evening, but in a morning and late at night his tail goes quite pink and almost see-through. He's always been like this and seems very healthy. I feed him sinking algae wafers and he loves them. I've got him in a tank of his own for now so he has his own food, but I used to keep him in a tank with others (until he started bullying them badly) and he always had his fair share of food (has a nibble from the corys sinking algae wafers). He doesn't seem quite as keen on flakes as he does with any type of food that sinks.

Hope this is useful :-)

Abi

:I seem to be having a problem with my Red Tail Shark. I inherited him from a friend about two weeks ago (after he realised he couldnt keep two together). I've got a cave for him, and in the afternoons he seems to be a deep black colour with a reasonably red tail (his tail was never as red as my friends shark). Yet in the mornings before I feed the fish his tail seems to appear almost transparent/whitish at the base. I'm worried he's not getting enough food, and have tried putting in sinking pellets as well as floating food, yet it seems my other fish (Gouramis and Tetras) are the only ones who find it and are thus pigging themselves.
:Is there a way to ensure the shark gets well enough fed, or is hi pale tale caused by something else. (The tank is well heated and has a continuous filter).
:Any help would be appreciated.
:Kath
