How big is the pond? You could put other plants outside the pond to help shade. Falling leaves are a nuisance though. UV Clarification is pricey and less natural but very effective. You could make a stream or small upper pond to flow into the main pond. Putting water hyacynths or water lettuce in there would compete with the algae for nutrients without taking up space in your main pond. You could also use underwater plants to do the same thing. Not sure if you'd be opposed to underwater new plants or just surface ones.
