Did you keep a hole in the ice for a gas exchange? Was the pond well cleaned before going into winter? Did you do a scrape to check for parasites? And lastly, what is the water quality? Any of the previous can cause the loss of fish over a winter, especially the kind we are just coming out of up here in the north. A pH of 9 should not kill a koi, unless it is coupled with an ammonia reading. A pH crash can quickly kill a koi however.


:Check your ph level,my mom lost all her koi last fall when the level went up to 9.
