I would not keep fancies in a pond. They are slow swimmers and are easy prey to raccoons, snakes, cats or whatever. And if you have them in a pond with single finned fish they can be injured by over zealous spawning and have a tough time competing for food. I found this out the hard way and ended up doctoring a fancy tail for almost a year.
