Granit rock bad for water?

Hi
I was wondering if anybody knew if granit rock was harmfull to the pond(its inhabitants). I have a bunch of large granit stones that I could make a waterfall out of, is this a good idea, or should I go with something like slate? Like my question is when the water is constantly running down the rock, erosion will most likely occur after a while. I was just curious if this is safe to my fish, plants and turtles.
Thanks
John
