Hi I live in Texas too and have a couple of ponds in full sunlight. One quick and cheap way to get clear water would be to dump as many aqautic plants in there as you can. Of course that would be expensive if you ordered or bought them for a pond that size. But here in Texas, it isn't to hard to find natural ponds that are teeming with plants such as hydrilla, water hyacinth, water lettuce & hornwort. You could grab a bunch of trash bags, go wade into a nearby pond and collect as many plants as you can and stuff those bags full. Then take them home and dump them in your pond and in a day or so it will be crystal clear. I speak from personal experience. Whereabout in Texas do you live? If you live in or near Houston, I can tell you of a good place to go and collect tons of pond plants for free.

thanks,

Jay
: Thanks, Wendy. I know the algaefix isn't great for the water lillies, even if it does say it is "plant safe". At the time, I just wanted to get rid of the algae...

: I don't particularly want to "save" this pond. It is a big square box above ground, and it's not all that pretty. My plans are to create an in-ground multi-level pond with a waterfall. We have a fairly large yard and I also want to install a pool/spa, but this monstrosity is right in the middle of the yard, so the useable space is inadequate for a pool. Once i get rid of the current pond, I think I can have a large pool/spa and a koi pond of at least 2000 gallons, if i plan the space properly...

: I am sure that if I dropped enough money into this pond that i could get it to be healthy-- I just don't think that's what I want to do, so i was mostly interested in temporary stop-gap measures to keep the pond from turning into a mosquito and algae farm.

: Thanks!
: Lorraine
