Thanks, Wendy. I know the algaefix isn't great for the water lillies, even if it does say it is "plant safe". At the time, I just wanted to get rid of the algae...

I don't particularly want to "save" this pond. It is a big square box above ground, and it's not all that pretty. My plans are to create an in-ground multi-level pond with a waterfall. We have a fairly large yard and I also want to install a pool/spa, but this monstrosity is right in the middle of the yard, so the useable space is inadequate for a pool. Once i get rid of the current pond, I think I can have a large pool/spa and a koi pond of at least 2000 gallons, if i plan the space properly...

I am sure that if I dropped enough money into this pond that i could get it to be healthy-- I just don't think that's what I want to do, so i was mostly interested in temporary stop-gap measures to keep the pond from turning into a mosquito and algae farm.
