Advice building my own filter?

I'm looking into buying a pump and building my own filter for my snapping turtle. I'll probably go about getting a big stock tank or something for it. I know it's not a true POND but I figured this would be the best place to ask. The size would prolly be around 100+ gallons and I basically need to know if anyone has any plans I can look at so I can create my own filter? My dad is plant manager at a company that makes pumps so he can get me one for cheap. Any advice? I'd need to know pump sizes and everything cuz I'm TOTALLY new at this. Thanks!
