biological filtration?

Hello, I might be getting a Big headed turtle and wanted to know how
to filter the tank. I have seen it where people have a powerhead hooked
up to an undergravle filter and then run it up to some water hyasynths (sp?)
in a separate tray and was wondering if anyone has any plans for a setup like this
