I't stupid to leave hatchlings outside that are under 4 inches. A squirrel, crow, raccoon, opossum, even a rat or chipmunk could have taken it, carried it off and eaten it. At that age. their prey to everything. I even seen pictures of water insects and frogs killing and eating hatchlings.
