Clay Pot pond lining problem ...need help!

After talking to several so-called 'experts' in the field, was given (what I thought was non-toxic water based sealer) pavement sealer/paint ... which turns out to be oil based.
I intended to put 2 small goldfish in this pot (with glaze on outside, not in) but I am now loathe to try this ... can someone tell me if this paint is indeed safe for my fish, or should I paint something akin to a silicone aquarium sealer over top?
