:I'm thinking about purchasing a bristlenose. I have the correct temp and a established tank with algae. I've read that the bristlenose need wood in their enviroment. I have a piece of driftwood I am willing to add to my tank. It came from a freshwater lake. But how do I go about disinfecting it and how do I make it not float?
:
I would run only the hot water tap in the bathtub on it, and leave it in a bucket filled with hot water. Now and then I'd check it and refill it with more hot, steaming water. After a few rinses, I'd leave it sit in the water overnight with a rock over it to hold it down. One more hot water treatment in the morning and leave it sit again until evening, then try it in your aquarium. I did that on my large driftwood (store-bought, though). You will still need to attach it to a slab of slate and stack a few rocks on the slate to keep it from floating. I recommend using screws after drilling the slate, but silicone sealant may work in a pinch if it can cure properly. Ask your LFS about underwater super glues as well.
