Hiding places for large plecos - plastic pipe? (ABS, PVC)

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to serious aquariums (bought a handful of them from someone who was moving - yikes!)

Things are going well so far (except for 2 beautiful angels who died, I think stress of the move, and my water was just too hard for them) :-(

Anyway - one large (I dunno - 10"?) common (I think) pleco.

He/She likes to hide, as we know, but what is suitable? Currently he sort of wedges himself between a couple large rocks. I was thinking that a section of plastic pipe would be perfect - long and narrow, dark, easy to get in and out of, no sharp edges, easy to clean, and, importanly - easy to add to the tank. I guess I worry that when I build a cave with rocks, there is a chance of it collapsing and injuring him. One internet site advised against adding any pipe - but it looked to be more of a blanket statement than anything with back-up facts.

Any advice? Sorry I rambled...

Keegan
