ok, i will do i partial water change, and im sure its fungus, not ich, or velvet etc, i didnt do a water change when i switched meds :(, and when i said "net", i meant the internet lol. it said on the bottle of malachite that light causes oxydation of of the med, breaking it down and u shouldnt have lighting while medicating. i also thought that lack of light wasnt doing them any good. i will follow ur instructions and follow up with info as soon as there are any changes. thanks so much

:Well, first, are you absolutly possitive it is a fungus? If it is, in actuality, a parasite, the medicines you are using will only help minimally.
:You seem to pretty possitive, though. So, did you do partial water changes at the end of each medication period? Did you sterilize that net you thought you found the fungus on? Why did you stop lighting? (I've never heard of this being done, and lack of light can cause stress)
:If you do a partial water change, and are possitive it is fungal in nature, then go with whatever medication gets you the best outcome.
:As for the betta, I would leave him in the tank, as long as he isn't harassing the other fish. The drop in temperature and small quarters would stress him, possibly causing a drop in his immune system. This could cause the disease to come back quickly.
:Hope this helps you some!
::ok, here goes.
::10 gal tank- male betta, 2 platies, snail. temp 78,
::last week, i noticed the betta had a small fungus patch on the side of his head, i quickly treated him with maracide, 1 drop per gallon every 24hrs for 5 days. After about 4 days, it was slowly going away, but on the net, i found info saying to treat fungus on bettas with malachite green, so i bought malachite plus and started treatment. discontinue carbon filtration, no lighting, use 3 drops per gallon every other day for a total of 3 treatments, then add fresh carbon to filter at end of treatment.
::Now heres the problem, yesterday was the third treatment, u can hardly see the fungus, its just kindof a raised spot on his head, well then i notice 1 of the platies has a fungus spot on the end of one of his fins, i couldnt really tell, the betta might have beaten him up, so i add the last dose and thats that. today, 24hrs later, i find that he has 2 fungus spots on his tail, 1 on his body and more on his fins. Now what!!! betta is improving and the other platy seems ok. so should i go back to maracide, or continue with malachite? (it seems to me that the maracide made a bigger improvement than the malachite)also, what about using melafix? is continuing meds longer than instructed going to cause stress? should i take male betta out and put him in a bowl, he would be going froms temp of 78F to 68F, or will that cause more stress than leaving him? sorry for this being so long, hopefully more detail will help.
