I have a male and female platy that have bred a number of times, but only one fry has ever made it past the "food size" phase. Until this time, I had never intended on breeding them -- but the young female cross breed (mix between a Mickey Mouse and a long-fin) now swimming among her parents has given me a slight change of heart.
Now leading up to my question: I did a water change last night, only to find in the bucket the syphoned water let out into barely visable "specks" scurrying around among the debris. Now, everyone here says they can see right away when their platys have given birth (ie: I see babies) -- I didn't see a darned thing until the water change, and they're so small, I can't even tell they're fish. I'd say there's at least somewhere around twenty or thirty of them (I put them into my quarantine tank, just for good measure), but is there anything other than fry that they could be? What do newborn platy fry look like? I didn't notice my cross breed until she was about a quarter of an inch long, and therefore have no idea what to look for in newborn. Help?
