As of this morning I have more fry!!! I have seen at least one hiding in the leaves of a plant.
A couple of days ago I removed the divider and all are doing fine. Currently (in the 15 gallon tank), there are 2 parent Red-Wag Platys, 7 fry (3.5 weeks old), and now at least one additional fry (1 day old), giving a total of 10. Not bad for an initial investment of only 2 Platies! (bought < 2 months ago)!!
I dont think I have any chance this time of separating the fish as it was hard enough last time with only 2. I'll see if any new fry can make it on there own (I missed 2 last time and they made it in the same compartment as the parents).
The gravel vacuum I have is a proquatics 1" wide, 12" long with 6' hose. It says its designed for 10-20 gallon aquariums so ok there. I always seem to have problems with air-locks, or the hose falling out of the bucket at the bottom. Does anyone have a good way of afixing the hose to the bucket or something?
I have now got some freeze dried bloodwords in addition to the flake I already have. They love it! What is liquid food and where do you get it?
The green hairy worm came out a couple of evenings and climbed up the glass. I cant see it this morning but its definitely a live animal of some sort. It may actually be white but it does seem to have a hint of green. I still have snails also and they seem to be multiplying. Does anyone know if snails are good/bad for the tank.
Thanks for the help!
Charles.
PS. Where is this site based? UK or USA?
:Hi Charles, you can remove the divider once the smallest fry is large enough that they can't fit into the largest mouth of the adults. The time would vary since not all fry grow at the same rate for everyone.
:Yes, give your fry a variety in their diet. Crushed flakes are fine, but you can also give them other foods like liquid food for livebearers, baby brine shrimp, and crushed freeze dried bloodworms to name a few.
:OK, I have no idea what on earth the green hairy worm could be unless it's part of the plant like maybe a part of the root broke off. Strange if it really is a worm since most worms like that encountered in aquariums are white in color.
:Tetra's would get along fine with platies, but unless you have the extra room in your tank for them I wouldn't suggest getting them. What size is your tank and how many platies are currently in there? Are there any other fish in there?
:Exactly what gravel vac did you buy? Is it a Python or similar vac?
