Yes, give your fry a variety in their diet. Crushed flakes are fine, but you can also give them other foods like liquid food for livebearers, baby brine shrimp, and crushed freeze dried bloodworms to name a few.
OK, I have no idea what on earth the green hairy worm could be unless it's part of the plant like maybe a part of the root broke off. Strange if it really is a worm since most worms like that encountered in aquariums are white in color.
Tetra's would get along fine with platies, but unless you have the extra room in your tank for them I wouldn't suggest getting them. What size is your tank and how many platies are currently in there? Are there any other fish in there?
Exactly what gravel vac did you buy? Is it a Python or similar vac?
