Most of us don't use mulch....look into getting Flourite as a substrate, then mix it 50/50 with regular gravel. There are other options, but that's by far the easiest.

For in gravel fertilization, several companies make root tabs that you push into the gravel every 3 months. I don't think they're needed as long as you keep up on water column fertilization. Also, if you re-arrange frequently(like me), root tabs just make a mess and cause algae blooms.

:get it? is there a specific kind I should look for? Can I make My own with possibly using boiled romaine lettuce for the mulch? thanks in advanced for any info
