:I have a root from what i believe is a locust tree. i am not sure. it has these really nice tentacle like root shooting off the main root. will this type a wood be a problem for the tank. or do i need actual driftwood. i already know that it will affect my tanks ph but i was wondering weather it would leach anything else into my tank that would hurt my fish or plants. thanks for your thoughts

I don't recommend any type of wood in your aquarium other than driftwood. Wood can rot and foul the water, this doesn't even mention what type of chemicals may be on or in the wood that may seep into the water and kill your fish.
