You use a Syphon to clean the gravel while changing the water. There is even on that you can connect right to your facet. Some people think that scooping the water from the top or adding water that has evaporated is enough but the ammonia and harmful chemicals settle on the bottom.

To tell you the truth, I don't know how long the 10 gallons will be okay. I would try to get a larger tank as soon as possible. Remember that you have to season the new tank for at least 5 weeks before you can put real fish in it.
