: Last year i got two common american eels that were about 4-5" long. They are now about 14" and live in a 40G breeder with thick gravel, lots of rocks, plants, and a few cichlids (all get aalong fine). They eat sinking pellets, worms, shrimp, beefhearts, whatever.
: I have been doing research on them and it seems that as they get older/bigger, they will have a need to get to the ocean, and they become aggressive when they are land locked in a tank, no matter what the size.
: Two questions:
: Does anyone keep them and have some info about keeping them?
: And
: Would they be better off being released in a river, and would this be safe for them? There is a river by me that has common eels in it (hooked many), and it leads to the Atlantic ocean.
: Any info would help, post or email, thanks....
the eels need the journey to the ocean as a stimulant to breed put them in a river don't just drop them in the ocean it will confuse them also i'm sorry but i've never heard of keeping full grown ones in a tank without them going crazy.
