: Geri - After viewing your photo, I suspect that you have some type of Gambusia, which is what a Mosquitofish is. There are a couple of different species native to Texas, but it is most likely the Central Mosquitofish Gambusia affinis which is widespread and commonly found in road side ditches, etc. While probably not easy, trying counting the number of rays or spines in the dorsal and tail fins which should number 6 and 9 respectively.
