One of the main reasons I'm hand feeding and "training" Spotty while he is small is to hopefully minimize any aggressive behaviour when he gets "seriously large" and to acquire learned behaviour that the hand and fingers are not food and pose no threat to him. This is not to try to make a pet out of him; that's what my dog and cat are for! :) I certainly have a healthy respect for him now and for sure, when he is bigger.
When I do the training exercise of letting him come to my hand, I do not make any motions toward him; letting him come to me. I also do this only when he has been well fed.
I do not recommend inexperienced aquarists or children do this; accidents can happen; but hopefully, working with him now will help minimize accidental bites in the future.
