They'll do that, won't they? Fortunately, they're also very resilient. I found my snowflake on the floor once and she (who really knows how to tell the difference?) was pretty stiff and covered with carpet lint, but I tossed her back in the tank and lived to grow to almost 3 feet. Mine never seemed all that bright before the accident, so I wasn't too concerned about brain damage. They ARE cool, though.
:Well,I came home from work and saw a disaster. My poor eel out of water. Worse still - I use a towel for a backdrop (nice pattern on it). So he was getting the moisture sucked out of him by the towel too. He was pretty gummy by the time I found him. I have no clue how long he was out for - I presume for most of the day since he only comes out in the dark. Is there such a thing as brain damage for eels? He seems to be fine and he now has a mesh covering the little hole by the filter where he got out...
