:I had an eel jump out over night and put him back in the next morning and he was fine. Must have been out of the water for about 7-8 hours. Fish usally dry up pretty fast.

::Well,I came home from work and saw a disaster. My poor eel out of water. Worse still - I use a towel for a backdrop (nice pattern on it). So he was getting the moisture sucked out of him by the towel too. He was pretty gummy by the time I found him. I have no clue how long he was out for - I presume for most of the day since he only comes out in the dark. Is there such a thing as brain damage for eels? He seems to be fine and he now has a mesh covering the little hole by the filter where he got out...

7 or 8 hours is about the most they can stand. My eel has done this twice and was out once for about 4 hours. I let him flop around for awhile until he calmed down and picked him up with a net. He was fine. But if given a chance they will do it again. They call it peeking. Yours should be fine.
