It is recommended that a snowflake eel have a minimum of 60 gallons if the eel is by itself. When I got my snowflake eel he was only 6 inches long and I kept him in a 30 gallon tank until he got to about 9 inches. Now he is in a 90 gallon tank with 2 damsels. He seems to like that. If you are going to keep a snowflake in a 55 gallon tank then you can't have anything else in the tank. He will need lots of room to swim around
