It sounds like you'll be off to a great start. I really enjoy snowflakes. Mine got to be about 30 inches or so and got very tame. If I needed to move "her" (I don't know if anybody knows how to really tell males from females), I'd just scoop her up in my hands and move her. She'd become active once the tank light was turned off and swim around a lot. She also seemed to stop looking for ways to escape after she got bigger. Unfortunately, she "escaped" when I had her in a temporary container while I sealed a leak in the aquarium and I didn't find her in time. The lionfish she shared the tank with (they also get very tame, believe it or not)seems kind of lonely, so I'll probably get a young snowflake and start again. Sorry about rambling on like that. I guess I miss me eel more than I thought. Good luck!
:I agree! I started with a snowflake eel, now I have 2 in 2 separate tanks. my larger eel is hand feed and is pretty lazy, and my newer edition is fairly young, and still swims looking for exits. There are a lot of good articles on the web, and make sure you have adequete filtration, as my larger eel is a very messy eater.

:Good luck

::Yes that sounds reasonable. The snowflake will be a good starter eel for you. Sounds like your doing your research and that's good. Since you have not maintained a marine system before continue to research and seek advice when needed. Good luck.

:::As the name implies, I'm more of a snake keeper than anything else (university student, maintain native and nonnative venomous and nonvenomous snakes both for the college and privately), but I have kept a few aquaria on and off over the years, but mainly really simple stuff, and many times just a few things here and there for use as feeders for my other animals.

:::I'm thinking of adding an aquarium to one of my rooms. I've really been looking at snowflake moray eels, and from what I can find on them they seem pretty hardy (I've read a lot of the old posts about them on this forum) and generally an easy species to keep.

:::I have room for a larger tank, but I have a 29 gallon long that I was thinking about housing a small one in, and then as the eel grows move it to a different tank and fill in the smaller tank with other stuff. Does that sound reasonable?

:::I'm new to marine aquariums, so is this a good beginner animal to start with?

:::Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
