In Reply to: I\'d like to get a lionfish but need help choosing. posted by b-boy on March 05, 2003 at 03:00:55:
:Hi,
:I have a 30 gallon aquarium and would like to know what kind of lionfish I can get for it. I have no fish in my tank so far, but it has been cycled and its running on a power filter and a Red Sea Prizm protein skimmer. Anyways, I'm interested in a dwarf but what kind of fish are compatible with it? I'm interested in getting 2 ocellaris clownfish, yellow head jawfish, bicolor angel, and a firefish. Would these be ok? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
The jawfish and the firefish might get eaten depending on thier size as well as the size of the lion. The clowns might also get chomped. I just had a scorpionfish eat both of my clowns, and they were big! These things have much larger mouths than it seems and I wouldn't put anything past them. If the fish is smaller than the lion I would consider it potential prey. That said, dwarf fuzzy lions make great and hearty captives. Bicolor angels have a bad reputation for dying quickly. I'v never heard of one lasting more than a few months. Flame, coral beauty, rusty, lemonpeel and Herald's angelfish are much better choices. This also seems like a lot of fish to put into a 30 gallon tank. Hope this advice helps.
