Like one has a reef system and has a plate coral, if it dies from being pick on, when it begins to fall apart, most coral it touch it kills it or the area of that coral, and many people try having a number of other toxic marine animals, like most like the sea apple, now i would never suggest one try to house this, unless they plan to have no fishes in this system, and even then, we are talking about a closed in system, so as i seen thru the years, there are some changes that come into play, like for one thing, most hobbyist don`t feed their marine animals there proper nutritional foods.
Now i found a number of people that was feeding cook foods, because they were told from the aquarium store from which they bought there marine animals, and honestly, many area`s on the internet and in books as well write some incorrect information. It`s like i always said, no one person knows all about every marine animal that lives in our oceans. Now i been researching for years and still today im learning about other marine creatures. Just the other day in reef forum, this person has bought a coral, and from most what i can gather, he bought it from sight only, saw it in some book or somewhere and saw its beautiful, i mean if i was able to house an orange sea rod, i would had this coral many years ago. So the main problem here is the aquarium stores, now not all but most don`t offer the hobbyist the correct information on many species and honestly, this is "SAD" :(
Like i have angelfishes, i never ever used a net on them, and if many people can recall that hearing many angel were netted and it caused damage which end up in there death. Now to house together any mixer of marine species, there is always a risk, but when one wishes to have such an fish as a cowfish, one must look for the most calm fish one can, but then again, there isnt any guaranties. Even damsels get aggressive in time.

:: Well the Dwarf grows 6 to 7" and as for a cowfish, well first it will depend on which the cow fishes. Now even that the dwarf grows just under 7", the smallest cowfish grows just under 6" and that would be risky to attempt. Now one the larger cowfishes grows 20" and a 180 gal tank would be needed to house it. With any these lionfishes, one must understand that when very hungry, they are able to expand there jaws wider then one realizes. ><{{{{"> Buddy

:::We are just starting on this adventure and want to know if dwarf lions and cowfish can successfully be mixed. Also, we would like to have 2 dwarf lions and a cowfish. What other fish can be included in the tank for color and daytime/evening activity? What is the final size we would need for this setup. We don't want to keep buying tanks, so we would like to start with the right size. Is there any good references out there for what we need to know. We have fresh water, but are clueless about saltwater.
:::Thanks

:Personally I wouldn't mix the cowfish with anything....a species tank would be more appropriate for these fish. Not only are they prone to ich, but when stressed they can release a toxic mucus which can kill the other fish in the tank, including the cowfish.
:The size of the tank would depend on what species of cowfish you are interested in.....
