Hi, these lionfishes Inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs from turbid inshore areas to depths of 50 m. Hides in unexposed places at daytime often with head down and practically immobile. Hunts small fishes, shrimps, and crabs at night, using its widespread pectorals trapping prey into a corner, stunning it and then swallowing it in one sweep. Dorsal spines are venomous, this fish will grow to 15 inches and would need wide open spaces and to house thie fish once it has reached his full growth in any smaller tank then a 75 gal is a sin, i know that most say a 55 gal tank good for them but honestly, think of it, these lionfishes grow to 15" and when their spines open wide while in open spaces is beautiful but they also take up lots of room and in a 55 one would reach the depths the 55 without even swimming around, and the other fact on that many say a 55 is ok for them is that it`ll be only this lionfish in this aquarium. And one other thing , one who house a lionfish needs to know that these animals require perfect water conditions.
Just a note; if you hadn`t maintain an freshwater tank, i really think you should start this first to see if this is for you are how you might do in marine tank`s, and there is a difference in maintaining both, for freshwater your fishes can be alittle forgiving in few error`s that you might make and marine system`s the marine animal`s are less forgiving. So if you hadn`t done a freshwater tank first, please do so for 3 years or so first, don`t simply rush into an marine tank without a background to what your be doing. ><{{{{">
