: I just based it thru my experience since I have bought new pebbles before then rinse it after that the fishes got sick so all I did is take the fish out put in a basin with net add salt and good aeration and they get well but not all survive. Thats why I rinsed the pebbles everyday for a week and soaked sorry not simmer wrong word and then add it to the tank then it runs well. I think its not the pebbles which have the poisonous substance since it carries tiny particles which make the water super cloudy sometimes like milk. Maybe that would depends what country and what states you in even tap water dont have the same mineral content in different areas.
