:I've read a few sources that state this fish can live in slightly brackish waters. Has anyone kept them at, say, a specific gravity of 1.005?

If you are refering to Aplocheilus lineatus, I don't recommend any salt. Their "ideal" water is slightly acid and soft. They are also one of the larger killies, growing to 4 inches, standard length. They are also very predacious to things that can fit in their mouths.
