I think the best thing to do is avoid this type of store altogether. they exist obviously because people buy their stuff. if we didn't buy, they would not be there.
so why is it that consumers insist on shopping at this type of establishment, knowing that nearly everything they sell is substandard and even though its cheaper, you'll end up paying more in the end because you have to buy the thing over and over again. this applies to everything from fish to toasters.
in my town we had a woman who dealt in fish and pond supplies. she had the best quality equipment and the healthiest fish(thanks to her strict quarantine policy). she went out of business as soon as we got a huge pet store and walmart started to carry pond supplies. where is the logic in that???? the petshop tells me they don't need to quarantine because they have a UV system - so why is it most of their goldfish look ill. and walmart carries garbage pumps that are gauranteed to last no longer than the gaurantee.
i say don't bother calling walmart....their mandate is to do what they are doing, otherwise how could they afford to sell for less. if the occasional store has healthy fish its a coincidence...someone happens to know about fish in the department.
::Just like petstores, some Walmarts are better than others. Where I live they have the golds and the tropicals seperate. Some of them are sick, especially the goldfish every once in a while, but overall it seems decent. Also, I know for a fact that the Walmart where I live gets its fish from the same supplier as the Petco, which also has trouble with its goldfish. The main problem with Walmart is the fact that the employees in the pet department don't really care, if they know any better, what people buy or what they put it in. It's hard to blame them, but I wish they just wouldn't sell pacus or iridecsent sharks!
::Anyway, what you can do, is ask for the name and number of the store director. If he/she doesn't care, go for the district manager. I'm pretty sure they have to tell you who they are. Just keep going up the ladder. Maybe you'll make a storewide change!
:I got an Amazon sword plant from Wal-mart. And the stupid guy bent like 2 branches!!!!!!
