A really weird story of fish adoption, and some questions.

Ok here goes, this entertainer/performer called the regurgitator came to my college a while ago. He swallows objects and brings them back up again. His big finally is swallowing goldfish and bringing them back up alive. There were three fish, one of them seemed to be sick. Another student took the fish and treated it, and then decided they do not want it. So I have adopted this regurgitated fish. They had been keeping it in a small fish bowl, that was way too small for the fish and the fish would do sumersaults in the water, spraying water all over the place. I found a tank in the closet, I think it is maybe 10 gallons, but I'm not sure. So my question is, does this goldfish need a filter? I used to have a bunch of goldfish that lived in a tank with no filter, and they lived fine untill my african clawed frogs ate them one day. Also, this fish acts very weird. It is a very active fish. It swims around very fast and swims in circles, does summersaults, and sometimes swims on its back very fast. From what I have observed in the past, I don't think this is normal goldfish behavior. It has been about 1 1/2 months since it was regurgitated. Does anyone have any answers for me? Is there anything special I can do for this fish?
