It sounds more like a tumor, or possibly a cyst. The only way to rectify these problems would be veterinary care. They can sometimes be left, as long as the fish is otherwise healthy, but that may eventually effect swimming and make him deformed. Just keep an eye on itfor any drastic changes.


:I have an older (three years) plain but large goldfish. It has a lump on one side, rather well-defined, which has been there for almost a year. It has not spread to any of the other fish but may haave gotten larger over time. Is this a parasite? What should I do? Thanks! Islandpiper
