: Hello yet again, my question is basically this...why does my stingray change from light color to dark color so often. I mean so days he will be really dark...Cool... and other days be so light there isnt a pattern?
Well, a lot of fish undergo shifts of color intensity. This can be due to a number of things, such as water quality, emotional state, breeding activity, season, temperature to name a few. I too see this in my rays, mostly the motoros, each shift lasting usually a few days or so.For the most part I would think there is little to worry about and that this is a perfectly natural occurence. However, it might prove wise to check the levels of things in the water, pH and the nitrate/nitrite concentrations at least.
Also in the morning when i get up he has like a film that looks kinda like a spider web on him....but at the end of the day its gone. Hes eating fine temp is stable at 78 water changes once a week... any thoughts thanx
The "webbing" is actually the mucous coat and if you see this being shed on a daily basis there is something wrong with your water. The only time I've seen any of my rays shed this was when my blue spotted ray jumped out of the tank, after some time I came into the room, and put her back in the tanki. She then proceeded to shed the mucous coat which had dried considerably (I'm amazed she's even still alive). But this is the only time I've witnessed it with my rays. Check your water. Personally, I do water changes AT LEAST two to three times a week.
Hope this helps......
